ORDERS & AVAILABILITY
What does "deadstock" mean, and why does it matter for availability? Deadstock fabric is end-of-run or cancelled-order yardage from mills and manufacturers — it already exists, no new resources were spent producing it. We source deadstock before we design, which means our collections are limited by what's available. When the yardage is gone, that colorway or style is finished. We don't reorder. This is not a marketing tactic — it is how we operate.
Why is a product showing as unavailable? Either the deadstock run has sold through, or the piece is in development and not yet available for purchase. We do not display out-of-stock products with Add to Cart active. If a piece is listed as coming soon or in development, you can join the waitlist to be notified when it's available.
Can I request a specific color or size that's sold out? We cannot guarantee restock of any colorway once the deadstock yardage is gone. If a new run of similar material becomes available, we will make it under a new colorway name rather than represent it as the same fabric. For made-to-order inquiries on specific pieces, contact us at info@loka.haus — we accommodate a limited number of custom orders per season.
Do you offer pre-orders? Not at this time. All purchasable products are available and ready to ship. Preview listings marked "in development" or "coming soon" are visible for informational purposes only and cannot be purchased.
Can I place a custom or made-to-order piece? Yes, on a limited basis. Contact info@loka.haus with the piece you're interested in, your measurements, and any specific requests. We will confirm feasibility, timeline, and pricing before any payment is taken. Made-to-order pieces typically require 4–6 weeks and are final sale.
PRODUCT IMAGERY & AI RENDERS
Do you use AI-generated images on the site? Yes, selectively and transparently. LOKA.HAUS uses AI rendering tools to create design direction imagery for pieces that are in development and not yet photographed as finished garments. These images are generated from detailed construction briefs and are intended to represent our design intent as accurately as possible.
Any listing or page using AI-rendered imagery will be identified as such. We do not present AI renders as product photography of finished pieces.
How do I know which images are AI renders and which are real photographs? Listings or pages containing AI-rendered imagery will include one of the following disclosures, placed visibly on the page: "Design direction render — not final product photography" or "Image shown is an AI render based on planned design specifications." If no such disclosure appears, the imagery is real photography of the actual product.
How accurate are the AI renders to the finished product? We use detailed technical prompts that specify fabric weight, drape behavior, hardware finish, construction method, and colorway. The renders are directionally accurate — the silhouette, hardware placement, and overall aesthetic reflect the planned design. However, the finished piece will vary in ways that photography of real fabric always differs from a render: natural variation in drape, slight differences in brass patina from piece to piece, and the specific way deadstock silk catches light in real conditions. We will always replace AI renders with real product photography as soon as finished pieces are photographed.
Why use AI renders at all? LOKA.HAUS is a one-person studio. Designing, producing, and photographing a collection takes months. AI rendering allows us to share design direction with our community before finished pieces are ready — so you can see where we're going, join the waitlist for what matters to you, and be part of the process rather than waiting for a finished campaign to drop. We believe transparency about this process is more interesting and more honest than presenting renders as something they're not.
MATERIALS & SUSTAINABILITY
What is silk charmeuse? Silk charmeuse is a satin-weave silk fabric with a high-gloss face and a matte reverse. It drapes with natural weight, moves with the body, and catches light as you move. It is heavier and more substantial than georgette, smoother than habotai. Our charmeuse is stretch silk — it has approximately 5–8% stretch across the grain, which allows for closer-fitting silhouettes without structured boning or stiff interfacing.
What does "sustainably dyed" mean for your silk? Our deadstock silk is sourced already dyed — meaning we are not commissioning new dyeing runs. The dyeing was done as part of the original production run that was then cancelled or left as surplus. We select deadstock specifically because it eliminates the water and chemical load of new dyeing. We do not use the term "sustainably dyed" to imply any specific certification — we use it to describe the absence of new dyeing in our supply chain.
How is the brass hardware made? Every piece of brass hardware in the LOKA.HAUS collection is made by hand in our Austin studio. The process: a master form is designed digitally and printed in PETG on our Bambu X1C 3D printer, sanded to 1000 grit and sealed with epoxy. A silicone mold is cast from the master using OOMOO 30. Smooth-Cast 325 resin is mixed with 325-mesh brass powder and poured into the mold. After demolding, each piece is wiped with mineral spirits, burnished with 0000 steel wool, and patinated with black shoe polish. Each piece is slightly different — the patina pools differently in each casting. This variation is inherent to the hand-cast process and is not a defect.
What is kumihimo braiding? Kumihimo is a Japanese textile braiding technique that produces a dense, round or flat braid using weighted strands worked on a disk or stand. LOKA.HAUS cord closures are braided in-studio using rayon satin cord, worked on a foam disk or rigid frame. The resulting braid has a herringbone or chevron surface pattern with more structural integrity and visual weight than machine-made trim. Cord ends are whipped with thread and capped with hand-cast brass aglets.
Are your materials certified organic or fair trade? We do not currently hold third-party certifications. We source deadstock fabric from domestic and international suppliers, prioritizing materials that already exist over new production. Our hardware is made in our own studio under our own labor. We are transparent about our supply chain and do not make claims we cannot substantiate.
SIZING & FIT
How does LOKA.HAUS size? We size XS through XL on apparel. Our silk pieces are cut with slight drape ease — they are not body-con fits. Model sizing information and measurements are listed on each individual product page.
What if I'm between sizes? For silk pieces with adjustable hardware or ties, sizing up typically gives more drape and configuration flexibility. For structured pieces, we recommend your standard size. Contact info@loka.haus if you want specific fit advice on a piece — we know our patterns and can advise directly.
Do you offer returns for fit issues? Yes. See our Returns & Exchanges policy below or on the Returns page.
SHIPPING & DELIVERY
Where do you ship? We ship worldwide from Austin, Texas. Domestic orders ship via USPS or UPS depending on size and weight. International shipping rates and estimated delivery times are calculated at checkout.
How long does standard processing take? In-stock items ship within 3–5 business days. Made-to-order pieces ship within 4–6 weeks from order confirmation. You will receive a tracking number when your order ships.
Do you ship to Faire wholesale buyers? Yes. Faire wholesale orders ship separately from DTC orders and are governed by Faire's wholesale shipping terms. Contact info@loka.haus for large or custom wholesale shipping questions.
CARE
How do I care for silk charmeuse? Hand wash in cool water with a gentle soap. Do not wring — squeeze gently and roll in a clean towel to remove excess water. Hang dry immediately on a padded or smooth hanger. Do not tumble dry. Do not iron directly — press with a cool iron through a pressing cloth, or steam from a distance. Store on a padded hanger or flat. Keep away from direct sunlight for extended periods.
How do I care for the brass hardware? The brass hardware is finished with lacquer seal but is not waterproof. Remove pieces before swimming or bathing. The patina will deepen naturally with wear and exposure — this is the correct behavior of the finish, not deterioration. To restore brightness, buff gently with a soft brass cloth. Avoid jewelry cleaning solutions — they will strip the patina.
How do I care for the kumihimo cord? Spot clean with a damp cloth if needed. Do not submerge the cord or the brass aglet end caps. The rayon satin braid is resistant to compression but avoid tying it too tightly for extended storage — hang the garment with the cord loosely coiled.
